Block Paving Works

Concrete Block Paving

This specification is suitable for most residential projects such as patios and driveways.

  • Excavate to reduced depth of at least 200mm below finished level (350mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
  • Supply, lay and compact minimum of 100mm of DTp1 crushed stone sub-base material to falls and levels.
  • Supply and lay on 100mm concrete bed and haunch, 200x100x60mm block pavers as edge restraint, to lines and curves.
  • Supply and lay on 25-40mm zone 2 sand bed, 200x100x60mm block pavers to falls and levels.
  • Pattern is to be 45° Herringbone. Include all cuts and sealing of joints with silica jointing sand.
  • Blocks to be INSERT BLOCK TYPE HERE
  • Clear site of all debris and rubble on completion and make good.
  • Inspect paving after 4-6 weeks and top up any empty joints with dry silica jointing sand.
  • All work to comply with BS 7533:Part 3 2005

Recessed manhole cover

  • Supply and fix to finished level, replacement recessed manhole cover(s), minimum 450x600mm, on mortar bed and/or regulating brickwork as required. All brickwork to be constructed from Class B engineering brick and Class 1 mortar, and to be a minimum 215mm wide.
  • Allow for block infill to match surround paving and tie in with new paving.
  • Provide lifting keys as necessary.
  • Welded to BS4872. Galvanised to BS 729. 7½T loading

Clay Pavers

This specification is suitable for most residential projects such as patios and driveways.

Block Paving Kerbs

  • Supply and lay on 100mm concrete bed and haunch, INSERT KERB TYPE HERE as edge restraint, to straight lines and curves, with INSERT CHECK HERE mm of upstand above paving level.
  • Allow for use of radial units on curves of less than 2 metres radius. Any open joints to be pointed with a class 1 mortar.
  • Make good to back of kerb on completion.

Flags/Slabs


PCC Flagged driveway

  • Excavate to reduced depth of at least 150mm below finished level (300mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
  • Supply and lay on minimum 100mm C7.5 mass concrete bed, 900x600x50mm pcc flags, natural colour, with full mortar joints.
  • Includes all cuts and pointing.
  • Clear all site of debris and rubble on completion and make good.
  • All work to comply with BS 7533:Part 4 2006

Patio Paving

  • Excavate to reduced depth not less than 150mm below finished level (300mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
  • Supply and lay construction grade geotextile should site conditions warrant its inclusion.
  • Supply, spread and compact to minimum thickness of 100mm, DTp1 crushed stone sub-base material installed to suitable falls and levels.
  • Supply and lay on 25-40mm 8:1 grit sand/cement bed, INSERT CHOSEN TYPE Paving in INSERT NUMBER OF SIZES in full accordance with supplier’s installation guidance.
  • Colour to be INSERT COLOUR laid in INSERT PATTERN pattern.
  • Includes all cuts and filling of joints with Class II cement mortar OR 1-Part polymeric mortar OR 2-part epoxy resin mortar (delete as appropriate).
  • Clear all site of debris and rubble on completion and make good.
  • Any drainage requirements, access cover fittings, kerbs, edgings, or other sundries are additional to the specification given above.

Concrete


Concrete Hardstanding

  • Excavate to reduced depth of 100mm below finished level (250mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Supply and erect all necessary formwork and shuttering.
  • Supply and place 1 layer of PIFA 1200 Damp Proof Membrane to base. Lap joints to be taped with min. 350mm overlap.
  • Supply, place and finish 100mm of Class C30 mass concrete in bays as required.
  • Include expansion joints as required, comprising full depth flexible filler board with 30mm suitable sealant to top of joint.
  • Surface to be brush and trowel finish.
  • Clear all site of shuttering, debris and rubble on completion and make good.

Pattern Imprinted Concrete

  • Excavate to reduced depth of 100mm below finished level (250mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Supply and erect all necessary formwork and shuttering.
  • Supply and place 1 layer of PIFA 1200 Damp Proof Membrane to base. Lap joints to be taped with min. 350mm overlap.
  • Supply, place and finish 100mm of Class C30 fibre-reinforced mass concrete in bays as required.
  • Include expansion joints as required, comprising full depth flexible filler board with 30mm suitable sealant to top of joint.
  • Supply and apply INSERT COLOUR dry-shake colour hardener and work into surface of fresh concrete.
  • Supply and apply INSERT COLOUR Release Agent
  • Surface of concrete to be imprinted with texture mats.
  • Border to be imprinted with INSERT PATTERN texture and body to be imprinted with INSERT PATTERN texture.
  • All mats to be fully square and correctly aligned with no deviation from line.
  • Supply and apply 2 coats of acrylic sealant.
  • Clear all site of shuttering, debris and rubble on completion and make good.
  • Cut crack control joints as required.

Gravel


Gravel Hardstanding

  • Excavate to reduced depth of at least 150mm below finished level (300mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
  • Supply, lay and compact minimum of 100mm of DTp1 crushed stone sub-base material to falls and levels.
  • Supply, lay and compact 40mm of INSERT SIZE mm decorative gravel INSERT NAME HERE
  • Clear all site of debris and rubble on completion and make good.

Tarmacadam or Bitmac


Bitmac Driveway

  • Excavate to reduced depth of at least 200mm below finished level (350mm below dpc) and cart all spoil to licensed, off-site tip.
  • Excavate any soft spots in sub-grade as required and dispose.
  • Supply, lay and compact minimum of 100mm of DTp1 crushed stone sub-base material to falls and levels.
  • Supply, lay and compact 50mm of 20mm dense binder course bitmac, and 25mm of 6mm hardstone bitmac surface course to falls and levels.
  • Clear all site of debris and rubble on completion and make good.
  • All Tarmac to comply with BS 4987

Edgings


Timber edging

  • Excavate as required for gravel boards and store excavated material on site for re-use
  • Supply and fix 100x19mm pre-treated wooden gravel boards, fixed to 50x50x450mm wooden pegs at centres not exceeding 1000mm, to lines and curves.
  • Backfill with excavated material and make good on completion.

Edging Kerbs

  • Supply and lay on 100mm C7.5 concrete bed and haunch, 915x150x50mm pcc square top edging kerbs to straight lines and curves
  • Make good to back of kerb on completion
  • All kerbs to comply with BS EN 1340

Drainage


Gully Installation

  • Excavate for new gully and store excavated material on site for re-use.
  • Supply and install 150mm opening yard gully c/w grating.
  • Include connection to SW system via ex. manhole or via new access junction
  • Backfill with excavated material and consolidate
  • All Drainage to comply with Building Regs Part H 2002

Linear Drainage

  • Supply and lay on 100mm C7.5 concrete bed and haunch, Class B polymer concrete linear drain c/w Class C galvanised grating and fixtures to levels and falls.
  • Include connection to SW system.
  • All Drainage to Building Regs Part H 2002

Drainage pipework

  • Excavate for connecting pipework to depth n.e. 1.0m and store spoil on site for re-use.
  • Supply and lay on Class B bedding, 100mm vc or uPVC pipework connecting to existing.
  • Test pipeline for water-tightness using approved manometer or similar
  • Cover pipe with granular material and backfill using excavated material
  • All Drainage to Building Regs Part H 2002

Land Drainage

  • Excavate to depth n.e. 600mm below Ground Level and dispose of spoil off-site.
  • Line trench with suitable permeable geo-membrane, eg, Terram 1000, and allow for 350mm taped lap joints.
  • Supply and lay land drain comprising 80mm perforated pipe in 200mm wide trench backfilled with 20-10mm clean gravel. Limestone gravel/chippings is not acceptable
  • Fold geo-membrane over top of gravel and secure before covering with excavated material
  • Make good to surface and clear site on completion.
  • Includes connection to SW system.

New Drainage Connection

  • Excavate to expose existing drainage system at point of new connection.
  • Break into existing pipework and form suitable connection and/or branch junction.
  • Make good and backfill with excavated material.
