I have a project of surfacing a road. The spec has been designed as 75mm DBM with 45mm HRA.
After a few trial holes the existing tramlines run through the road at 90mm down-I can’t find any literature/specs about surfacing over the tramlines. Has anybody come across this previously.
There is scope either side of rail to plane to 120mm but that would leave 45mm above the rail.Im thinking of a glass grid over the rail also if this may help.

Any thoughts guys

I've never seen a spec for that, yet I've been involved in umpteen surfacing jobs where we laid blacktop over old lines. All I can recall is a "suggestion" that we coat the lines with Tack Coat.

The glass grid makes sense, or some other geotextile. Is there no RE on the job you could ask?

I too couldn’t find any spec in any of the Shw docs.
I’ve spoken with the designers  and they agreed with my proposal of 20mm padcoat,glass reinforced grid,30mm Sma binder with a 50mm hra surface course.
Obviously all on bond coats.
When the planer ripped out, the tramlines had a row of setts either side of it. They were absolutely solid so wasn’t going to disturb them.
Surfacing on Tuesday so far so good
